Andrey Sushentsov (1983)

Dr. Sushentsov is a Russian political scientist and foreign relations expert specializing in the American studies. As of still 2025 he has been dean of the School of Government and International Affairs (MGIMO). He has been working at MGIMO since 2006, where he focuses on scholarly-analytical, teaching and administrative work. He is the head of the Foreign Policy analytical agency, which he founded in January 2014. Since September 2014, he has been also the program director of the Valdai Discussion Club.

He has been active in Serbia since at least 2017 and maintains a close relationship with Vuk Jeremić (born 1975), a Serbian politician and former diplomat known for fostering close ties with politicians from the Russian Federation and China.

Here is an example of an interview he gave to Ljiljana Smajlović for RT Balkans on April 17, 2025, where they jointly promoted pro-Putin Russian propaganda regarding the aggression against Ukraine, including:

  • Citing the views of John Mearsheimer (born 1947), a well-known American political scientist recognized for his theory of offensive realism, his sympathy toward authoritarian regimes, and his disregard for the sovereignty of independent nations.
  • Claiming that Finland made a “strategic mistake” by joining NATO and that it is now obligated to “follow Brussels’ prescriptions.”
  • Asserting that Ukraine is “an instrument of the West” and expressing hope that Serbia “does not become one as well.”
