Mitar Kovač (1959)

Mitar Kovač (born 1959) is a retired Serbian Army major general, academic, politician, and a vocal pro-Russian commentator known for disseminating disinformation supporting Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Celebrated by nationalist circles for his defense of Serbian and Russian interests, Kovač has leveraged his military expertise to promote anti-Western narratives, aligning with Kremlin talking points. In 2023, Kovač was elected to Serbia’s National Assembly as a candidate of the “Mi – Glas iz Naroda” movement, co-founded with Branimir Nestorović. He serves on the Defense and Internal Affairs Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee, advocating for Serbia’s non-alignment and opposition to NATO integration. He is also directly connected to several pro-Putin’s Russian, Serbian government affiliated gongo organizations.

Below is an example of his anti-Western, pro-Putin propaganda supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, broadcast on TV Vesti and interviewed by pro-Russian propagandist Srdjan Predojević (b.1971) — a government-controlled Serbian media outlet — on April 19, 2025:
