Branislav Lečić (1955)

Branislav Lečić (b. 1955) is a Serbian actor and politician. He was one of the leaders of “Plišana revolucija” (Plush Revolution), during the reign of Slobodan Milošević. After the victory of the Serbian opposition (DOS) in the 2000 presidential elections, he was named the Minister of culture in the government of the late Zoran Djindjić. After Čedomir Jovanović left Democratic Party (Serbia), Lečić followed, and became one of the founders of LDP. Soon afterwards, he left LDP, and founded the “Moja Srbija” (My Serbia) Movement, taking part in Serbian elections in 2008. In early 2010 he and his party merged into the Christian Democratic Party of Serbia. After the death of its founder and long-term leader Vladan Batić due to prolonged and progressive cancerous illness, Lecic was elected DHSS party president. In 2021 he was one of the president and one of the founding members of Demokrate Srbije along with Balša Božović, Vida Ognjanović, Dragan Domazet, Slobodan Milosavljević and Vojislav Janković.

On 22 March 2021, it was revealed that actress Danijela Štajnfeld accused Lečić of raping her in 2012, while on the same day an audio recording of their phone call was leaked to the public of what appears to be a conversation between Lečić and Štajnfeld about the alleged rape. On 13 July 2021, the Public Prosecutor’s Office dismissed Štajnfeld’s criminal report.

Ever since the beginning of the full scale Russian aggression against Ukraine, Branislav Lečić has frequented numerous Serbian media while being particularly vocal in his pro-Russian, anti-Western and Serbian national-revisionist narratives.
An example of Lečić’s anti-Western public engagement is an interview conducted by TV host Ivon Jafali on TV K1 – TV Tanjug on May 9, 2025, in which he justified Aleksandar Vučić’s visit to Moscow, Russia, where he was the only politician from Europe, along with Slovakian President Robert Fico and the President of the entity of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, to pay tribute to the Russian military amid Russian aggression against Ukraine. Mr. Lečić also assessed that the European continent was sliding not only into fascism but also contained elements of Nazism. These claims were not only left without rebuke by host Ivon Jafali, but she actually endorsed them:
