Jovan Palalić (1971)

Jovan Palalić (b. 1971) is a politician in Serbia. He has served several terms in the National Assembly of Serbia. Once a prominent member of the Democratic Party of Serbia (Demokratska stranka Srbije, DSS), Palalić is now the general secretary of the Serbian People’s Party (Srpska narodna partija, SNP), led by Nenad Popović (b. 1966), an individual sanctioned by Western countries. Since 2016, he has served as a member of the Serbian Parliament, elected as part of a coalition led by the Serbian Progressive Party.

Simultaneously, he has engaged in various anti-Western and pro-Russo-Serbian nationalist narratives and activities. Here are just a few examples, among many:

  • He has served as the Director of International Affairs for a pro-Russian GONGO (Government-Organized Non-Governmental Organization) called Centar za razvoj međunarodne saradnje Vršac, based in Serbia.
  • In 2023, he was one of the speakers at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest, Hungary, where he was introduced as: “The Serbian ‘Nationalist’ Who Is Not Afraid of Joe Biden.”
  • He opposed a 2009 state visit by then–Vice President Joseph Biden to Serbia, accusing him of being anti-Serb. He also opposed a 2010 resolution by the Serbian National Assembly that apologized for the Srebrenica genocide.

As the president of the Serbian parliamentary friendship group with Italy and the Vatican, he visited the Papal State in June 2025. Upon his return to Belgrade, he gave an interview to Serbian TV Happy on June 7, 2025, in which he spoke against the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and expressed hope that the new Roman Catholic Pope, Leo XIV, would intervene to support the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) remaining under the jurisdiction of the Moscow-based Russian Orthodox Church:
